What's included on each worksheet
Every sheet uses the classic primary handwriting rule: a solid top line, a dashed midline, a solid baseline for letters to sit on, and a descender line below it for the tails of g, j, p, q, and y. The alphabet sheet flows all twenty-six letters across those rows in order, spaced so a pencil has room between them. The single-letter sheet opens with a solid dark example row and then repeats the letter in traceable form on every row beneath it. Each page carries a name and date field at the top, so a class set comes back identifiable.
Tips for teaching letter formation
- Don't start at A. Begin with the letters built from straight lines and simple curves — l, i, t, then c, o, a — and save the awkward ones (s, k, z) for later. Our guide to letter order walks through the full sequence.
- Use the large letter size for three- and four-year-olds. Small letters demand pencil control that hasn't developed yet, and the result is a frustrated child rather than a neater letter.
- Trace with a finger before a pencil. Saying the stroke out loud (“down, around”) while tracing builds the motor memory that the pencil then reproduces.
- Move from dotted to solid gray to a blank line as a letter is mastered — three visible stages beat repeating the same sheet ten times.
- One letter per session is plenty. A whole-alphabet sheet is better used as a reference page taped to the table than as a single sitting.
