How to use this graph paper generator

Pick a grid type, a spacing, your paper size, and a line weight — the preview updates instantly and shows the exact sheet you'll get. Click Download PDF and print at 100% scale (not fit-to-page) so every square measures exactly what it says. No account, no watermark, no limits.

What's included on each sheet

Each sheet is a single full page of grid on US Letter or A4. Spacing is computed in exact printer's points — a 1/4 inch square is exactly 18 points, a 5 mm square exactly 14.17 points — and the grid is drawn with whole cells only, centered on the page, so you never get clipped partial squares at the edges. Engineering sheets add a heavier line every 5 squares; isometric sheets form true equilateral triangles with your chosen side length; dot grids mark only the intersections.

Tips for printing graph paper

Customization options

Grid type

Square grid is the classic quad-ruled paper for math and charts. Dot grid marks only the intersections — the bullet-journal standard. Isometric draws a triangular grid for 3D sketching and technical drawing. Engineering adds a heavier line every 5 squares for fast counting and scale reading.

Grid spacing

Six presets: 1/8, 1/5, 1/4, and 1/2 inch, plus metric 5 mm and 1 cm. On isometric sheets the spacing sets the triangle side length; on dot grids it sets the distance between dots.

Paper size

US Letter (8.5 × 11 inches) or A4 (210 × 297 mm). The grid refits to whole cells on whichever sheet you choose while the spacing itself stays exact.

Line weight

Fine (0.5 pt), medium (0.75 pt), or bold (1.1 pt) lines. Fine grids recede behind your work and photocopy away; bold grids suit younger children and low-vision users. Dot size scales with the chosen weight on dot grids.

Frequently asked questions

What sizes of graph paper can I print?

Six grid spacings are available: 1/8 inch, 1/5 inch, 1/4 inch, and 1/2 inch, plus metric 5 mm and 1 cm. Each spacing is calculated in exact printer's points (1 point = 1/72 inch), so a 5 mm grid really measures 5 mm on paper when printed at 100% scale.

How do I make sure the squares print at the exact size?

Print the PDF at 100% scale (also called "Actual size") and turn off any "Fit to page" or "Shrink to printable area" option in your printer dialog. Fit-to-page scaling shrinks the grid a few percent and a 1/4 inch square will no longer measure 1/4 inch.

What is the difference between square grid and engineering graph paper?

A square grid uses identical lines everywhere. Engineering graph paper adds a heavier line every 5 squares, which makes counting cells and reading scales much faster — with the 1/5 inch spacing you get the classic engineering pad: five small squares per heavy 1-inch square.

What is isometric graph paper used for?

Isometric paper has vertical lines plus diagonals at 30 degrees, forming equilateral triangles. It's used to draw 3D objects without perspective — cubes, piping layouts, video-game and Minecraft plans, product sketches, and math work with solids all sit naturally on the triangular grid.

What is dot grid paper used for?

Dot grid paper marks only the intersections of the grid, keeping the page visually quiet. It's the standard for bullet journaling and habit trackers, and it's popular for sketching, hand lettering, and UI wireframes because the dots guide alignment without competing with your drawing.

Which grid size is best for school math homework?

For most elementary and middle-school math, 1/4 inch (or metric 5 mm) squares are the standard — big enough to write one digit per cell. Younger children may find 1/2 inch squares easier, while graphing in algebra and science classes often uses the finer 1/5 or 1/8 inch grids.

Can I print on A4 as well as US Letter?

Yes. Choose US Letter (8.5 × 11 inches) or A4 (210 × 297 mm) in the paper-size option and the grid is recalculated to fill that sheet with whole squares, centered. The grid spacing itself stays exact on both sizes.

Is this graph paper generator really free?

Yes. Every sheet is completely free — no signup, no email required, no watermarks, and no limit on how many pages you generate, download, or print.
